ProteinSnap ("the app") is a protein-tracking app. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. Short version: your data stays on your device, meal photos are processed by an AI service and not stored by us, and we collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the app.
Your profile (age, height, weight, sex, goals), logged meals, streaks and badges are stored locally on your device only. We run no user accounts and keep no copy of this data on our servers. Deleting the app deletes this data.
When you scan a meal, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI to estimate its nutritional content. The photo is used only to produce that estimate: we do not store your photos, and they are not used to build any profile of you. OpenAI processes the image under its API data usage policies (API data is not used to train their models).
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used (for example: which onboarding step people stop at, whether a scan succeeded). Events are tied to a random anonymous identifier, not to your name, email or any account. We do not collect your meals' contents, photos or health metrics in analytics. You can reset the identifier by reinstalling the app.
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to validate purchase status; RevenueCat receives your anonymous app user id and purchase receipts, never your payment details.
